To encourage the pursuit of academic excellence, to foster critical and creative thinking, and to induce a desire for self-directed and life-long learning, the curriculum known as "the Paulinian Spectrum" is devised with the aim of promoting moral integrity and social responsibility in all Paulinians. The important aspects of education stressed in SPSS --- Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Social, Aesthetic, Emotional and Spiritual --- are represented by the seven colours of the spectrum of sunlight and delivered through the formal and informal curricula.
Languages are the essential tools for communication and learning; hence, the school emphasises biliteracy and helps students attain both Chinese and English language proficiency. The medium of instruction is English, except for Chinese Language, Chinese Language and Culture, Chinese History, Putonghua and Family Life Education.
In order to cater for the needs, interests and abilities of different students, the school offers diverse and coherent curricula in both junior and senior forms. The junior curriculum aims to lay down a strong foundation in core subjects as well as ensure general education in all Key Learning Areas. The senior curriculum is characterized by a wide range of courses and flexible combinations. It facilitates the stretching of students' potential to its fullest and prepares them for their success in further education and future career.
The informal curriculum, including the "Four Key Tasks" and Life-wide Learning activities, supports and complements the formal one to equip students with positive values and attitudes, high-order thinking and generic skills. The "Four Key Tasks", namely Moral and Civic Education, Reading to Learn, Project Learning and IT for Interactive Learning, provide broad learning opportunities and various learning modes to enhance effective teaching and develop independent learning capabilities. In addition, Life-wide Learning activities enrich students' knowledge and experience in all aspects resulting in a boost of students' overall learning effectiveness. |
